Purpose

The Leadership Development Committee creates materials and events to support the development of chapter leaders and the succession planning process. The committee guides the MPI Board of Directors in identifying future leaders, and promotes chapter leadership opportunities and professional skills development to the membership.

Overall Goals

• Foster leadership development in all members at all levels
• Increase awareness within membership of the chapter's leadership opportunities and the personal and professional benefits of chapter leadership
• Plan and implement leadership meetings (All-Team Meetings) to promote communication among all committees and leaders
• Assist committee chairs in recruiting volunteers to increase volunteer involvement
• Develop and implement mentoring programs to encourage participation in chapter leadership and to give members professional assistance where they need it
• Conduct discussions with members on a regular basis regarding leadership positions, their importance to the association, and help members determine where they may want to participate
• Ensure promotion of leadership development efforts
• Expose members to the chapter's leaders past and present through articles in the newsletter and online

All Team Meetings
As a perk for giving your time on a chapter committee, current committee members are welcome to attend the three All Team Meetings held during the chapter year. The programs are designed for leadership skills development with an emphasis on chapter board of director service. See the calendar to find out when the next All Team Meeting is scheduled.

Leader of the Month
In 2007, MPI MN instituted the Leader of the Month award. Board members nominate active committee members they wish to honor. The entire board of directors then votes to select the Leader of the Month, who will receive a prize from the current sponsor of the award. Leader of the Month recipients will be announced at the regular September, October, November, January, March and April MPI MN meetings. Click here for a list of past recipients.

Leaders Among Us
Providing concentrated leadership programming and tools for member with in the chapter and for students within the hospitality industry. This group will organize and run the January meeting with a focus on leadership tools.
Time commitment: 2 to 5 hours per month

Mentoring: Power of 2
The Power of 2 mentoring program is available to all current members of the Minnesota Chapter of MPI. This program matches volunteer mentors from the local chapter with mentees for a three-month commitment. Mentoring is available to members at any stage in their career who are seeking to develop new skills or make progress toward professional goals. Click here to learn more.
