2009-2010
This year, the Community Outreach Committee’s goal is to bring recognition to three local organizations. Piggybank donations collected during the monthly meetings will be divided evenly among these organizations in May 2010. Throughout the year, the Community Outreach Committee will also collect in-kind donations for and offer volunteer opportunities to our membership.
Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation
Overview: Imagine a world filled with new medical possibilities where individuals live healthier, more productive lives by preventing heart disease before it becomes a problem. This is the vision of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Through groundbreaking clinical research, professional education and health behavior change programs, they are making a tangible impact on individuals’ quality of life, and reducing the mortality rate associated with cardiovascular disease.

Free Arts Minnesota
Overview: Free Arts was founded by an art therapist on the theory that art and positive adult relationships are not a luxury for abused children, but a necessity. Programs seek to interrupt the cycle of violence. Through painting, drawing, music, writing, drama, and other creative outlets, the program serves as a catalyst to help children communicate and express themselves in new—and positive—ways.

Through a network of over 200 social services agencies, eligible clients are referred to their warehouse for a once-in-a-lifetime shopping experience. Program services and community needs continue to climb across the state and, in 2008, Bridging served over 17,000 individuals. This is double the number of individuals served just five years ago.
